researching MICE in China

Research into the meetings, events, incentives and business travel industry is fascinating and something i’m so passionate about. Last year, I explored the Chinese meetings market for research presented at CIBTM and again at EIBTM in November, and found that it’s now beginning to look a lot more like markets in other world regions.

Some key findings from this research were:

  • When choosing a venue for meetings, price is now the 2nd most important factor after location (it was 7th place last year).
  • When dealing with venues, the lack of flexibility in negotiations on price has become the most important source of meeting planners’ annoyance (up from 6th place last year).
  • In the past 12 months 57% of venues have noticed changes in the meetings and events market in terms of the client demand for stronger broadband.
