The food industry is booming… Let’s admit, you can’t scroll down your Instagram feed without seeing a perfectly filtered burger or meticulously decorated bowl of porridge.
The rise of social media has undoubtedly seemed to encourage a trend to eat well and try new things, and this can be seen throughout the meetings and events industry too.
From the rise of wine tasting incentive events, to brain food fuelled meetings or sustainable catering, the past few years have offered our industry a variety of food trends to play with.
Now, a new Skift report has been released focusing on the rise of food tourism around the world. It explores how destinations are developing new strategies, events, and marketing campaigns to capitalise on the rise of the global foodie, and the impact of those initiatives on local communities.
Research for the report asked participants about how food plays a role in their decision making on destinations. The results overwhelmingly proved that food was an important factor in travel and discovering new destinations with 54% of people saying pictures of food motivate them to visit a new place.
